MUG Mountain Bike Tour of Guernsey -Stage 4 Update
Thursday 18 July 2013
The MUG Mountain Bike Tour of Guernsey stage 4 took place on
Wednesday evening at Pleinmont
The downhill time trial stage was always going to give riders with better technical skills an advantage over the cross country specialists.
Although there was again no change to the blue jersey wearers in all categories, the challenging course ended Geoff Gibsons winning streak as the downhill specialist Gary Robert won the Elite category with an outstanding time of 58 seconds, this was matched by Dan Owen. James Harrisons technical skills took him to 3rd place in 1minute 1 second.
Chris Le Page also couldn't match his previous stage wins and could only manage a 7th place finish in advanced with Dan Thwaite taking the top spot with his superior technical skills, his time of 1minute 1 second was 1 second ahead of Phil Eyre and 3 seconds ahead of Keith Lanyon.
Paul Watts & Adrian Vaudin shared the top spot in the Veterans, both crossing the finish line in 1 minute 12 seconds, Andy Wilson was third in 1 minute 13 whilst Dave English was 4th in 1 minute 15.
Steve De Carteret finished 7 seconds ahead of Mark Coutanche in fun/novice. Shock of the evening came in the ladies category when Charlie Le Lievre crashed in practice and withdrew from the start leaving Justeen Baker to take the win with a time of 1minute 35 seconds, Chelsie Blondel grabbed the 2nd place.
In the under 14's Sam Culverwell kept his points advantage at the top of the table but with a fourth place finish Brad Vaudin closed the gap to just 1.5 point with his first place finish. Joe Le Cheminants lead in the under 12's was also reduced as Jake Girard's time of 2 minutes 2 seconds was 24 seconds quicker than Joe.
Thursday brings a much welcomed rest day for the riders with the MUG Tour continuing on Friday with a 4 cross at the Moto Cross Track.
4 Cross is a one lap heat race with 4 riders in each race.
