About the Bins for Men Initiative
Male Uprising Guernsey (MUG) is proud to launch the Bins for Men initiative, aimed at improving men's health and well-being across the island. We are installing MUG-branded sanitary bins in men's toilets in public places and private establishments. This initiative supports those dealing with incontinence due to prostate cancer treatments, IBS, Crohn's, and other conditions, helping them manage their needs with dignity.
To support those affected by incontinence, often brought about by prostate cancer treatments, IBS, Crohn's, and other conditions, MUG is supplying sanitary bins to men's toilets across the island.
The installation of these bins addresses a critical need, as 1 in 20 men over 60 experience bowel incontinence, and prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men.
Despite this reality, minimal facilities are available for men to dispose of their waste discreetly and with dignity. This initiative seeks to address that gap and allow these men to lead fuller lives, reducing the isolation and stress caused by their health issues.
A big thank you to former prostate cancer patient Phil Merrien at the States Works Department for inspiring this initiative with his shared experience.
