18th October was a perfect autumnal morning, and 460 riders took part in the fifth OAK Male Uprising Guernsey Coastal Bike Ride. Riders enjoyed the shared use paths starting from Home Farm and ending at Vale Castle where there was entertainment from Andy Mason and Neil Packham and a Bar B Que.

The Male Uprising Event raises awareness of MUG’s work with male cancers patients here in Guernsey with funding of important hardware for medical diagnosis, increasing awareness amongst males of key cancer symptoms and supporting medical experts and their patients.

The event also raises funds and so far, £7,600 has been raised by the 2020 event.

Riders who raised £20, £50 or £100 were given rewards ranging from MUG Goodie Bag, MUG polo or MUG Hoodie. Also, fundraisers who raised £100 or more were put into a draw to win a £250 voucher donated by Ian Brown’s Cycle Shop and the winner this year was Tim Le Cornu. Tim is also taking part in MUG’s Beard UP Campaign during November and raising even more money.

Pictured above is Tim le Cornu receiving his MUG Hoodie and Ian Brown’s Cycle Shop Voucher from Mark Chasey Chairman of OAK Group the event sponsors. Also in the picture is Ian Brown and Mark Smith the event organisers.

Mark Chasey, of OAK Group the event sponsors, said “It was a great event for MUG and OAK to be involved with, to see so many riders of all ages riding together  and enjoying our island and raising money for an important cause.”
